Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte declared June 5, 2019 as a national regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr. Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed Proclamation No. 729 as authorized by President Duterte.

Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadan) marks the end of the month of fasting for Muslims, and is celebrated by our fellow countrymen in Islamic faith. The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos recommended to make June 5th a national regular holiday. The declared holiday aims to “bring the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness”.

You may check out the Official Gazette website for more information about this declared holiday. Leading news publication Inquirer also reported on this announcement.
