Career Day at Sprout: Live Your Dream, Even For a Day
Growing up as a kid, I really wanted to become a pilot. Up to this day, my deeply-rooted love of flying always thrills me whenever I go places while riding on a hollow metal tube moving quickly at 35,000 feet above ground. It always fascinates me to feel like one with the clouds while zooming across the skies at high speed and forgetting the stress of everyday life. How awesome would it be to have a career doing the very best thing that I love.
For most of us, chasing our childhood dreams is somehow far-fetched. Perhaps some of us grew up in a poor family, or unable to land a scholarship in our dream school. These are some of the top reasons why we managed to set aside our dreams as a kid. We live in an imperfect world where constantly changing circumstances usually define our future.
It’s true that life is unfair and change is the only constant thing in the world. But that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t make our dreams a reality. It’s something to always bear in mind, especially when we don’t want to give up on our ambitions.
That’s why here at Sprout, we make sure that everyone has the chance to define success in their own terms, no matter what the odds are.
Live Your Dream, Even For a Day
We recently held the latest installment of our monthly General Assembly event. It’s the perfect venue for Sprout employees (we call ourselves Rockstars) to discuss company-wide matters, recognize valuable work, gather around to celebrate career milestones, and have some fun over food and drinks.
This May we had a Career Day-themed General Assembly, prompting us to dress up akin to our childhood dream job. Most of us dressed up as typical professionals in our usual daily wear, but some departments really stood out as they dressed up like painters and construction engineers wearing orange safety hats.
Say Hello to New Rockstars
This event also saw the graduation of two batches of new hires from Sprout University. Sprout University is an on-boarding initiative by Sprout’s People Operations team which aims to immerse new Rockstars into Sprout’s unique work culture.
Sprout University’s Blocks 6 and 7 wowed the crowd with their respective dancing and singing performances. This goes to show that Sprout appreciates all kinds of employee talent.
Grit Means Career Success
While Rockstars at Sprout know how to have fun, they also work really hard to support the company’s goals. Sprout’s founders Patrick and Alex Gentry were pleased to give out Rockstar of the Month awards in appreciation of hard-working employees. Sprout’s loyal employees were also recognized, because they’ve shown what it takes to be successful in their careers despite life’s challenges.
Sprout Solutions’ CEO Patrick Gentry talked about the concept of grit, which is a combination of passion and perseverance. He believes that it’s key to achieving career success, because he applied the same to his entrepreneurial journey. His inspirational words made everyone realize that there’s no single path to success. He also pointed out that it takes high levels of grit to reach one’s definition of professional and personal happiness.
Sprout’s Biggest Asset: Its People
Numbers mean a lot, that’s why performance highlights are part of Sprout’s monthly General Assembly event. Lead Rockstars showcased how their respective teams were performing. They also presented how they plan to sustain or outperform themselves in the coming months.
Sprout believes in continuous learning and development for its employees, which is why some of our Rockstars had the chance to take certification programs and professional trainings to take their career to the next level. This month’s event was the perfect venue for us to celebrate their newest career milestones.
The whole Career Day-themed event finally culminated in a social gathering over food and drinks. Everyone helped themselves with delicious food and refreshing drinks, and teams got together enjoying the rest of the day.
