The NCR wage board has approved a P21 increase in the minimum wage of Metro Manila workers this 2017.
From P491, the minimum wage in Manila will go up to a total of P512, effective October 5, 2017.
This is a milestone, considering that the last major hike took place in 1989, with minimum wage nationwide increasing by P25.
However, a P21 increase is still lower than what labor unions were asking for, and they are likely to continue further petitions, such as a P500 subsidy from the government to be given to minimum wage earners. For more information about this new update, check out the official DOLE website.
