Halo or horn effect

A type of rater bias affecting employee evaluations and hiring processes. It involves supervisors or hiring managers giving an overall positive or negative rating based on a single characteristic or impression, regardless of the individual’s performance or qualifications in other areas. This bias can distort fair assessments during both evaluations and recruitment.
