The pandemic situation in our country has intensified over the past month. For those in the greater Metro Manila area, it felt like we reverted back to square one when the government announced that it would be re-implementing ECQ back in March 2021. A lot of us were mentally and emotionally strained by the recent events. So what is the importance of mental health during the prolonged pandemic? How can we help each other stay afloat physically and mentally?
Coping with the Pandemic
It is very difficult to cope with the pandemic. With prolonged lockdowns and limitations of physical contact, it’s no wonder that we are all tired.
Learning to cope with the pandemic and your mental health can be very beneficial, here are some ways to ensure that you keep yourself afloat (and help those around you!):
- Take a break: One should know to take a break from listening, watching, and reading the news, and yes, including Social Media. This can help you clear your mind and veer your thoughts away from the current situation in our country wherein it elevates our stress levels.
- Engage in Healthy Activities: During this pandemic, we are limited to the bounds of our home but that doesn’t mean that we need to stop engaging in physical and healthy activities that will be beneficial for our mental and physical health. You can actually workout from home! This will help you stay fit and ultimately ease your worries when you see positive developments in your body. You can also engage in meditation and wellness. - Eat Healthy: Yes, we know, it’s easy to cook Pancit Canton during the pandemic but it’s too unhealthy. - Connect and Communicate: Talking with other people is another important thing to keep in mind to help you cope with the pandemic. Emotional support and having a channel where you can vent out your anxieties and stress is a healthy way to cope.
Have Time to Unwind
Unwinding, a simple and effective way to refresh yourself and relax from all the stress, restless nights and workloads. Always remember to take days off and spend time for yourself or with your loved ones.
Unwinding doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be outdoors. Especially with lockdowns in place, you’d be better off at home where you can engage yourself with new hobbies, maybe binge watch a Netflix series, cook your favorite meals, have a date night with your special someone, have e-numan nights with your friends or any fun virtual activities that you enjoy.
It is vital that you alot time for yourself and unwind, remember the importance of mental health during the prolonged pandemic, avoid burnout from work and keep that passion going.
