The Levels of Maturity

Initial

Basic HR transactions are being delivered by semi-skilled or experienced HR personnel who are part of accounting or any other business department, as there is no dedicated HR department. 

Repeatable

Basic HR transactions are performed by personnel from a dedicated Human Resources unit, but no meaningful input from HR is considered in business planning and other strategic initiatives.

Defined

HR transactions are performed by personnel from a dedicated HR unit, with a senior leader (manager or other similar rank) leading the function. HR work is characterized as still transactional, but an HR tech stack is in place.

Managed

HR has transcended tactical and operational concerns and has adopted a framework for engaging its workforce through an employee experience unique to the organization through processes and technology

Optimized

The workplace is optimized and ready for the Future of Work, such as implementing hybrid workplace/fully remote work, and Performance Management
